Profession: Medical Epidemiologist

Biography:

Dr Mauka is a public health epidemiologist with more than ten years in public health research design and analysis. He is specialized in epidemiological study design and biodata processing from local public health to Global Health perspectives.

Dr Mauka holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and has a master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) and Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics (EAB) focused on Health Systems and Public Research, advanced study designs, handling of large datasets and longitudinal/repeated measures. He is an Afya-Bora fellow for Global Health Leadership Fellowship on health systems strengthening in low-resource countries.

He worked as a program manager, researcher scientist, analytical contractor, and consultant for big data analysis. To that end, I worked as an Analytic sub-contractor assisting the Global Delivery Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with ad hoc analytical requests on Investigating COVID and fear of infection. Consultant as Senior Biostatistician- at  Public Health Consulting Company on developing and using the screening tool in conjunction with the HIV screening tool (HTS) to screen Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). He has worked as a co-investigator in the project for evaluating mHealth intervention among MSM to improve PrEP Adherence-Quasi-Experimental study.

Currently, he is a public health Evaluation Manager at Management and Development for Health (MDH), providing technical leadership and oversight of Public Health Evaluation interventions and services - including capacity building on PHE, design, integration, monitoring, and evaluation of PHE initiatives on key program priorities, as well as documenting and disseminating program best practices and lessons learned- in collaboration with other program and government staff, relevant ministries and PEPFAR. Moreover, he is an honorary lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College.

His most interest has been working on study designs and big data analysis, implementation research, mHealth intervention and Evaluation of public health-related programs/projects. His most recent interest has been to work in global health perspectives and implementation science, focusing on evaluating health-related programs/projects.
