Biography:

Dr. David M. Sando is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Management and Development for Health (MDH). MDH is Tanzanian local NGO working closely with government to improve delivery of quality, equitable and sustained health care services. Dr. David has a wealth of experience interacting with and studying African health systems. His background includes the design and implementation of rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems for health programs. He has led several impact evaluations of health interventions, as well as implementation science projects. He also has participated in economic evaluation of numerous health services delivery models. He worked as a technical advisor to policymakers in his previous position with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and as a partner to the government through his prior position as head of monitoring and evaluation and research portfolio at MDH. His currently roles as CEO of MDH include managing daily business at the organization to ensure effective implementation of health interventions through close collaboration with Ministry of Health and PORALG. In addition to administrative roles, he is still involved in multiple implementation science research work geared towards generating evidence to improve health services and outcome of Tanzanian people. His primary fields of research include, among other areas, infectious diseases, maternal and child health services, and non-communicable disease. He has PhD and Master’s degree from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public health and medical degree from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. Through his cumulative experience, training and expertise in health system delivery models and policy analysis, he strives to continue to conduct research, with a focus on low-income countries such as Tanzania, that contributes to evidence-based health delivery systems and policies that will optimize care and result into best health outcomes for our people and populations.
